Aprilia RS125: Starter Relay (Solenoid) Diagnostic Guide
If your battery is full but you only hear a "click" (or nothing at all) when pressing the starter button, the relay is the likely culprit. This guide covers its location and removal:
Location: The starter relay is situated on the left-hand side of the bike, tucked behind the frame spar near the battery and the subframe mounting point.
The "Screwdriver Test": To confirm the relay is dead, you can briefly bridge the two large 10mm terminals with a rubber-handled screwdriver. If the engine turns over, the relay's internal switch has failed.
Removal Steps:
Safety First: Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent a short circuit.
Pull back the red rubber protective caps from the relay terminals.
Undo the two 10mm nuts holding the heavy-gauge red wires.
Unplug the small two-pin plastic connector (this receives the signal from the handlebar button).
Slide the relay out of its rubber mounting "sleeve."
Replacement: These are a common failure point on the RS125. Use a high-quality 12V 20A-30A replacement. A cheap unbranded relay can "stick" in the ON position, which will keep the starter motor spinning until it burns out or the battery dies.
