The battery on an RS125 is tucked under the rider's seat and is critical for the RAVE solenoid and ignition timing. This guide covers the safe removal and care process:
Access: You must remove the rider's seat (usually two 5mm or 6mm Allen bolts) and the plastic battery strap.
The "Safety First" Sequence: * Removal: Always disconnect the Negative (–) Black terminal first. This prevents short-circuiting the battery if your tool touches the frame while loosening the positive terminal.
Installation: Connect the Positive (+) Red terminal first, then the negative.
Battery Specs: The standard is a YB10L-B 12V 10Ah lead-acid battery. Many owners now upgrade to Lithium (LiFePO4) to save weight, though these require a specific lithium-compatible charger.
Ventilation: If using a standard lead-acid battery, ensure the clear breather tube is routed correctly down through the fairing. If it kinks, the battery can bloat or leak acid onto the swingarm, causing permanent corrosion.
Charging: Because the RS125 charging system is weak, a "trickle charger" or "battery tender" is highly recommended during winter storage to prevent cell death.
