Aprilia RS 125: RAVE Valve Assembly & Operation Guide
This post provides a technical breakdown and video resource for the RAVE (Rotax Adjustable Variable Exhaust) system, which is the heart of the RS125's power delivery.
The Function: The RAVE valve is a sliding blade that changes the exhaust port height. At low RPM, it remains closed to increase back-pressure (improving torque); at ~8,000 RPM, the solenoid pulls it open for maximum top-end power.
The Removal & Install Process:
The Blade: The most critical step. The "beveled" side must face the exhaust outlet. Installing it backward causes the piston to hit the blade, leading to total engine failure.
The Housing: Uses a specific green O-ring and paper gasket. If these leak, the bike will "bog" down due to lost compression and oil spray.
The Solenoid & Cable: The solenoid (located under the fuel tank) pulls the cable to lift the blade. The cable must have roughly 1mm of free play to function correctly.
Maintenance: Because 2-stroke oil (especially cheap mineral oil) creates carbon "coke," the blade will eventually stick. The guide recommends a full strip and clean with carb cleaner or fine wire wool every 1,500 miles.
